Still got the charm....

Going to the city on bike for a shopping would save me some time, but each time i stop, my hands would be shivering, on account of the adrenaline running through my blood streams. The usual kind of ride always demand higher levels of concentration and quick reflexes, as i weave my bike through the traffic. To be sincere, i don't enjoy shopping alone; or in other words, i hate going for shopping on my bike. I don't know how it would be like, when i have a girl sitting besides me....Today's shopping was just awesome. I didn't take my bike. I went by bus, along with my mom. To be honest, the journey was calm, quiet, much peaceful than my usual shopping and I really enjoyed it.

Journeys become interesting when it takes unexpected turns. We were in search for a baptism kit, for my nephew. Our usual shops couldn't satisfy us. So we thought to look for every shop to find one. The search went on, shop by shop. As my choices proved to be wrong, my mom suggested a shop. It was their college favorite. I was pretty sure that my mom's choice would really disappoint her. As i stepped into the shop, i noticed a portrait with a garland, and someone who resembled the man's face was sitting beneath the frame. To my greatest surprise, the shop had a variety of baptism outfits, and i was really confused to pick one....

"Deepak, will you please keep your lips closed?". My mom asked me..

"Mom, thats what you call 'JAWS DROPPED'. I never expected to get this from such an old shop."...

"Some shops don't loose their charm, no matter how old they are"..

Fact!...As i walked along with her, few ladies passed by us. All of them were dressed to the latest fashion tops and jeans. One of them had a quilt worn around her neck. A tranquil scent adorned the air as they passed by.

"Definitely, they are St. Teresian's". My mom said.
"How come you know that?"...I asked in surprise.
"I won't tell you that until you take your eyes from her butt!.."
"Oh!I'm sorry. i was just...."
"Tats ok!"....
"Walking along these streets with me, u forget that i am also a St. Theresian...We, St.Teresians are much the same. No matter how old we are..Even some college don't loose charm"....
She was narrating me the old days.
"We didn't have jeans those days. Trendy outfits were Spotty churidars with shaped bottoms, hairs put up and not straightened like in these days. We often had a big flower on our head. And boys near and around our college didn't have pants displaying brands of inner wear and wallets mounted on butts like yours...."

We kept walking and turned towards a corner. She spotted a shop to me- a churidar shop. Years before it was a coffee shop. One among my mom's usual hangout spots. I could feel the brisk trade inside the shop as she narrated the coffee shop.

I enjoyed every step with my mom. We belonged to two different generations. Still i could perceive her talks like her college friend, without any generation gap. She was transformed into a college girl when she just remembered her college. For the first time, i felt my mom was different from rest of the pensioners waiting in queue in front of the treasury...

As i walked along the street, her words kept my mind busy -" Few people don't loose their charm............."

  4. I'm sorry for using the term "quilt"..I have been hearing that word for over a month, as my mom was frequently using that word....What i meant was something shorter and narrow than a dupata, made out of a material like wool, wound around the neck, which does not serve the purpose of a dupatta!....Well...u name it
